Calculation of costs using the Route Planner
The Route Planner is a software developed by PATERIS for the calculation of costs of patent applications and patents in different countries.
Database having time courses and costs
The Route Planner is based on a database, in which proceedings led by PATERIS are deposited. Time courses of the proceedings and the costs incurred thereby are stored in the database, and the data is continuously expanded by running proceedings.
More than 12 years of experience of PATERIS
Statistical analysis of the data representatively shows the courses of prosecution proceedings in a country-specific manner including costs. In the analysis, more than 12 years of experience of PATERIS are condensed.
30 countries
The database comprises data for prosecution proceedings in 30 economically important countries.
18 standardised procedural variations
The Route Planner offers 18 standardised procedural variations to obtain patent applications and patents in any combination of the 30 countries. Time courses and cost schedules of the standardised procedural variations are continuously updated by the statistical analysis of the database.
Cost simulations of virtual patent families
By the selection of countries and appropriate standardised procedural variations virtual patent families can be simulated using the Route Planner. The time courses of the proceedings can be predicted and the due dates and the amount of future costs for the individual countries can be estimated. The Route Planner also takes the different currencies into account.
Cost analysis and predictions
The Route Planner analyses the costs incurred to date and predicts future costs of already existing patent portfolios. Planned patent rights can also be included. The results are clearly presented in tabular form including links to relevant documents for a patent portfolio or a single patent family.
Budgeting
The cost analysis and predictions generated by the Route Planner allow budgeting of patent portfolios taking into account existing as well as future patent rights. The deviations of the budgeting from the actual costs are only about +/- 7%.
Patent evaluation
A calculation module for patent evaluation based on DIN 77100 “Monetary evaluation of patents” is implemented in the Route Planner. Using the calculation module, estimates on the economic efficiency of patent portfolios can be readily obtained.
